How to teach with Video
Jesus Christ Superstar outline

I'm a BIG FAN of Videos listed below on this webpage.
I use them when I teach; I have them in my home; I have given many to my church, and I regularly recommend them to fellow pastors and church educators. After recommending them for quite some time.... a few years ago I bought a Nest Family 'online distributorship' inspired by a challenge from my church to find ways to raise money for mission. When you order through my Nest webpage, I donate the modest commission to various mission and CE projects. Your video dollars have supported hurricane relief, missionaries to Africa, camperships at church camp, the Souper Bowl, recreation equipment purchase for a church camp, an inner city church program for kids, Church World Service, Sudan Relief, Habit for Humanity, Children's International, rebuilding homes in Appalachia, and Tsunami Relief through CWS.

About Nest's animated Bible videos
The Nest Videos are produced by Richard Rich Studios in Burbank California
~ the same studios which did the Swan Princess and Secret of N.I.M.H.   Rich was an animator at Disney years ago. The animation quality is WAY ABOVE what most Christian animated videos look like. Theologically they are mainstream.
Educationally speaking they are great for younger and older elementary, even younger youth. I use them without hesitation any time they fit my curriculum. We lend them out to our church families as well. Click here to see the Nest promo video.

While you're here, don't overlook the Matthew Videos (listed under "Visual Bible" or "Dramatized Video" link at Nest's site). They are The Best "live actor" videos I've ever seen. And I've seen them all. The fellow who portrays Jesus is terrifically warm, happy and approachable. Powerful stuff.

Nest Navigational Note:

Nest makes regular changes to their webpages, so I hope my navigational info here is current!

Or look on the LEFT side of their page for their menu links. You can order videos separately ("Children's Bible Stories") -or- order them in collections at a larger discount ("Complete Collections").

The Matthew and Acts live-actor videos are listed under "Visual Bible" or "Dramatized Video" on the left hand links.

Each of the following videos offers a moving and powerful presentation of stories from the Old and New Testaments in the language children love--the language of animation. Each of the animated videos are about 30 minutes long. The Videos are about $24.95 each, and come with a free reproducible activity book that's excellent for classroom use. Some are put on sale each month too. Listed below here in order of release.

The Nest Website also carries the wonderful "Kids 10 Commandment" videos on DVD. These are really well done in Disney-esque style (Miriam's voice is done by the same gal who did Little Mermaid). Comes with a Ten Commandment curriculum ....in addition to many reproducible handouts, coloring pages, & puzzles. It's free with the series. I have a copy of it and it's very nicely done.

As you can see by the graphic on the right here this is a 5 DVD set. Two Commandments to a disc. Moses is of course, largely featured, but the story is told from a young boy's point of view. He's an animated character of course, and he learns about each commandment while with his fellow Hebrews on Mt. Sinai. Theologically on target, very accessible to elementary age children and younger. Features 2-D and 3-D animation. Well done.

To order the Kids 10 Commandments DVDs click here to enter the Nest Website --then you'll see the text LINK to the Kids 10 Commandments DVDs on the left side of that page.

To order these titles go to my Nestfamily.com website
then click on the ANIMATED BIBLE STORIES section on that page.

Browse all the video offerings and order online straight from my nestfamily site. You can order them individually or in discounted packs (They put the big collections on the first two webpages). They will ship to you immediately from Nest and come with a 100% guarantee. Please order directly through my Nest portal.

I don't stock these titles. You must order them from the Nest Website.
Nest "Videos" are now on DVD only.

Why should you want DVD instead of VHS/videotapes?
Reason #1:  Ultimate Control  Moving around in a DVD presentation is super quick.
Reason #2: Nest has begun including extra features on each DVD, including INTERACTIVE QUIZZES you can take after the video is over.
Reason #3:  You have no choice. The old VHS videotape format is on the way out. Most Christian producers have or are in the process of moving everything to DVD format.

Every Animated Nest Video is accompanied by a free reproducible resource/activity book. Mazes, puzzles, crosswords, coloring pages, matching games. The resource/activity books are golden! ...and suitable for use even when the class isn't using the video. The new DVD formatted videos also include additional 'interactive' quizzes on the DVDs. While you're at the Nest site, check out the Visual Bible Series CDs... They're excellent....

MATTHEW from "The VISUAL BIBLE" series
Matthew is the best "live actor" dramatic portrayal of the events in the the Bible, presented word for word from the best-selling New International Version (NIV) translation. All ages--from preschoolers to the elderly--can follow along in the Bible while studying in a group or individually. There are plenty of natural stopping or pausing points in these videos so that they can be fit nicely into just about any time or teaching setting.

Matthew features a seasoned cast of actors including Richard Kiley (Matthew), Dean Jones (Luke), James Brolin (Peter), Jennifer O’Neill (Lydia), and the amazing Bruce Marchiano in the role of Jesus. You’ll see the stories, parables, and Jesus come to life again, word for word. No other text, lines, or script has been added. Just the Scriptures. Yet unlike many other Jesus films, the Matthew Visual Bible's portrayals are dynamic, thanks in part to the most dynamic Jesus portrayal you'll find anywhere. Pictured left, Bruce Marciano's portrayal of Jesus in this video is the best Jesus I've ever seen on film.

One of the other nice things about the Matthew video set is that they put the Chapter-Verse numbers in the corner of the screen. This is great for finding your place.

Make sure you order the complete Matthew edition, and not the 60 minute 'movie' version which is not verse by verse.

THE BEST THING about the MATTHEW VIDEOS is that Jesus is portrayed as warm, loving, compassionate, smiling, hugging, crying and laughing. Quite unusual for videos about Jesus, but incredibly moving. Actor Bruce Marciano has won many accolades for portraying the most loving Jesus ever captured on video or film. I personally find the portrayal wonderful. You want to hug this Jesus. You can't wait to follow this Jesus.

Format & Production Notes: The Matthew video was recently edited & released in a shorter 90 minute movie-style version. The version at NEST which I am recommending is the longer COMPLETE Matthew, word for word from the Bible. Well worth it. The Visual Bible company has also released a Gospel of John video. I've seen it and it is good. Different guy portraying Jesus. More subdued so I don't think young folks will relate as much. But hearing Jesus' speeches in John is really something. You can order it at Nest's site too.

ACTS from the "Visual Bible" series... and more "Neil Favorite" videos for Sunday School...

(1) The Visual Bible makes an ACTS video set which I like and can be ordered through my Nest web portal. Look under "Visual Bible" for the Acts video instead of "Timeless Bible Stories" when you're on their main menu. There are also some other good Acts video series available elsewhere (not at Nest) ....see below.

(2) A.D. the Acts miniseries originally was made for television. You can buy the edited for "church use" version from www.visionvideo.comThis miniseries was created by the same producer/director who did Jesus of Nazareth. It dramatizes the book of Acts and covers most, but not necessarily all of the actual verses. Depending on the story you're teaching from, it's a nice addition to your video library. There are two versions floating around. The original tv version, and the edited one for church use. Note that when you're ordering.

(3) For a REAL trip, rent/buy the Peter & Paul video also from www.visionvideo.com. Paul is portrayed by Sir Anthony Hopkins the famous British actor. In this dramatized version of Acts Hopkins captures Paul's insistent quirky personality.

Acts Video Note: Only the ACTS video series from the Visual Bible series has the entire book of Acts in it. Lydia, for example. But the Philippi prison scene in Peter & Paul is terrific. A.D. does a particularly good job at dramatizing things in a Ben-Hur movie kind of way.

(4) I enjoy teaching with the TNT Bible movies - Abraham starring Richard Harris and Barbara Hershey, Joseph starring Ben Kingsley as Potiphar. They are uncommonly good. You'll find them on Amazon.com. They have Jacob, Moses and Jeremiah videos too. The Jeremiah video is very good.

(5) I'm a HUGE fan of Jesus Christ Superstar -the movie. Great music, very dramatic portrayal of Christ, clearly shows the factions surrounding Jesus and the big decisions he was faced with regarding the direction and politics of his ministry. Awesome to show and talk about with older elementary and youth. Here's my FREE OUTLINE and lesson guide to Jesus Christ Superstar.

(6) Prince of Egypt and Cecil B. DeMille's The Ten Commandments. I've heard some people rag on Prince of Egypt. It is SO good. Very inspiring. Have the kids help discover what parts aren't exactly in the Biblical story, but don't overlook this superbly animated film. The kids like the old CB DeMille classic too -very dramatic for young people. Use them both.

(7) King David starring Richard Gere is one of the best Bible movies ever. Hollywood surprisingly stayed RIGHT ON the Biblical script. Some great performances and very authentic sets. There is only one 2-second scene you should skip --when he marries Michal they are seen in bed for about 2 seconds. Other than that...just an awesome movie.

To buy any of these "More Neil Favorites" above, go to www.Amazon.com  or  www.visionvideo.com

Nest doesn't sell through stores and every distributor has to offer the same price so it doesn't matter who you buy them from, you'll pay the same price. You cannot order these videos from me directly. You must order them ONLINE at the NEST WEBSITE Nest does offer some other nice products, such as Jay Jay the Jet Plane, and some Bible song sing-a-long CDs...but I'm not specifically recommending them here.
