Installation:
The CD installation checks to see if you have Quicktime 4.0 or higher. QT4 or higher is required to run the videos and animations on the CD. These videos have sound with them too. Quicktime 2.0 and 3.0 cannot run this CD's videos. If you discover that some of the animations and videos at a later time don't work, simply reinstall QT4 off the Ten Commandments CD.If Quicktime doesn't seem to want to install, or at first keeps asking to install, open up the Quicktime folder located on the Ten C's CD and manually execute the Quicktime installation.
Pardon those annoying Quicktime pop-up screens and messages that ask you to "UPDATE QUICKTIME" all the day long. Apparently Apple Computer (Quicktime's maker) thinks we can't live without them. Just click on past them.
The installation also checks if your computer screen is set to 800x600 resolution. If not, you'll be prompted to change. Smaller resolutions, such as 640x480 will cause the screen to be distorted and cut off. Higher resolutions will place a large black border around the photobubbles. The program has been designed for optimal viewing at 800x600.
If you reset your resolution to 800x600, reboot and Ten C's will completely fill the screen.
The CD does not install a start-up icon on your computer. To run the CD, simply put it in your CD tray and it will self-start. If you have this featured turned off or need to start it manually, simply find the executable 'start' file on the Ten C's CD.
If you encounter strange audio pops, hisses, garbles or other rude noises... they're not all ours! (though there is a camel snort when you click our name on the control shield at your feet in each photobubble). If you encounter audio pops and snorts, change your Sound Out option in the Quicktime Control Panel on your system to "wave out." See www.sundaysoftware.com/quicktime.htm for complete help on this. By the way...that's a real camel snort too... man did our sound guy hate us.
If the Summit Chapel's Ten C Tablet Activity doesn't print, or gives you a blank page... Open up your computer's Printer Control Panel and select "draft" or "quick" (or whatever else your printer calls "draft mode") and then print the tablets. Ten C's authoring program- Macromedia Director- and some printer drivers don't get along. The CD contains a blank version of the Tablets which can be printed by your operating system just fine.
Attention: Mac Users
You will need to 'turn off' your Virtual Memory to get the photobubbles to run. IPIX xtra which loads to run the photobubbles is not compatible with virtual memory. If you're screen freezes right after Moses' office, your virtual memory is on.
Performance:
It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you close ALL other programs before running Ten C's CD. The photobubbles and multimedia require plenty of RAM and the attention of your system. Close browsers, word processors and anti-virus programs. The program will run on a 233 mhz, 32 RAM with only 4 mb videocard. However, it will look better on 300mhz or higher processor, 4mb videocard or higher (8 recommended), and 64mb of RAM. Below 300mhz/64/8 you may have a video hiccup or two and the photobubbles may take upwards of 20 seconds to load. The word "hiking" will appear while it is loading. Those of you with more recent model computers should see everything fast.
If you encounter sluggish performance, please read "Improving Computer Multimedia Performance" (http://www.sundaysoftware.com/improving.htm). Jumpy video or black video, audio hiccups or long load times for various pieces in the program are telltale signs that your system is strained for resources.
Avoid over-clicking. We have a lot of audio that is trigger by mouse rollover. Under-powered computers may freeze if a click-happy camper goes wild.
Crank up those speakers! We use hi-fi stereo sound throughout the CD. We even put a "stereo CD player" in the Summit Chapel with various selections of our ALL ORIGINAL MUSIC. If you have a good soundcard, good soundcard software and good speakers --you'll enjoy the CD's many audio nuances.
Ten Commandments Version Notice
Ten C's is a technical tour de force and we made some adjustments in performance to help older machines handle it better.
- Version 1.1 was shipped January 2001.
- Version 1.2 began shipping after February 28, 2001
- Version 1.3 began shipping July 30, 2001. No other versions will be released for some time to come.
- Version 1.4 began shipping March 10, 2002. The "final" version.
Why tell you about version changes? ...Ten C's is a huge multimedia intensive program with many "firsts" for Christian software (read about these "firsts" here). This CD was close to my heart and the subject is so important, we just couldn't leave it alone. Version 1.4 --the "final" version happened because I had a few last ideas for changes and updates -and the money to do them. Tregg our programmer said I couldn't leave well enough alone. That may be true too.<>< Neil
Changes Made from 1.1 to 1.2:
- We adjusted the opening animation, Moses animation and I am Yahweh video to run a little better on slower computers and older videocards.
- We fixed the Monastery stained-glass video launching glitch. (they still work in 1.1, just not in order).
- We added three sound files to program nobody but our sound guy noticed were missing. We added two short Moses narrations to the Chaos Canyon signs. We added a soundtrack to the Greatest Commandment presentation.
Changes made from 1.2 to 1.3:
- We adjusted the opening animation to improve clarity of background and a few lip-syncs.
- We added a printer control panel pop-up to the Summit Chapel's printout feature.**
Final Changes made in Version 1.4:
- Changes to two tiny graphic signs.
- Added words to the Cross which appears after Chaos Canyon (the little kids really liked this scene so I put something there for the teacher to read to them).
- Reduced the number of words you have to replace on the Ten Commandments tablets. Now about 15 drop, instead of 25.
- Changed the wording in the Leap of Faith flash presentation in Chaos canyon to add clarity for younger students.
- Changed the text descriptions that appear on the bottom of the Idol Thoughts billboard.
- Changed the activity description on the clipboard in the Summit Chapel. We also improved the print function there for computer which couldn't handle printing from Macromedia.
- Duplicated the CD with a silkscreen label, rather than gumlabel --so it won't stick in iMac CD slots.
That's it folks....there won't be any more fussing. I'm really proud of this CD and hope you like it.
