Errors, Solutions and Helps for software in our catalog
FIRST... read our helps, then if you have questions, email neil@sundaysoftware.com or call 1-614-527-8776. If you have VISTA, read our Vista Help page at www.sundaysoftware.com/vista-list.htm
In rough alphabetical order...
A Walk in the Footsteps of Jesus CD...
Problem:
"Invalid
Media" message during installation or startup. Solution: Install Quicktime 2.x from the CD.
Use Windows Explorer to locate it among your CD's files.
Abraham
and Sarah CD...
"Videos don't work/I don't see videos/I click buttons that don't seem to work."
Solution: You
need to manually install Quicktime version 5.x which is on the CD. Quicktime
4 or earlier versions cannot run mpeg formatted video/animations.
"Videos are jumpy, stuttering" --probably means your computer is a
mite too slow. Consult our "improving performance"
article.
Sound is warbly or contains odd sound behaviors... Double-click
the BLUE Quicktime Icon in your Windows Control Panel and change
the "sound out" properties to "wave out." This program
may not run in 'native mode' under OSX. It is native to 8/9.
Attack of the Sunday School Zombies CD...
In Vista, it needs some tweaks to the Vista permissions in order to run.
See the Readme-Vista.txt file ON the CD for complete help.
Awesome Bible
Stories...
"Purim video not working." Solution: Install Quicktime from folder on
the CD or download latest free version from
www.quicktime.com.
"Talents"
story audio is hiccupping a syllable here and there. Annoyance only
affects version 1.0.
"More Information" study note in Creation story cuts off. Only occurs in version 1.0.
Read the text or upgrade to 2.0.
"I'm stuck on the Zaccheus floating butterfly screen" --click the
butterfly!
"One of the Adam and Eve study notes is wrong." This error only
affects version 2.0. View the correct
study note here and download a fix.
Actual Reality... "Videos/music don't run." Solution: Install the version of Quicktime which is on the CD. Please note: Actual Reality also doesn't install a start-up icon, but you can do it manually. Click here if you have a "Director ....virtual memory" error.
Bible Grand Slam version 3.0 -- Here are some very helpful tips on how to create and edit question sets in Bible G Slam v3.0. This page also teaches you how to copy a question set from one computer to another.
Bibleland.com... Error: "Script Error. Handler not defined" in XP. Solution: After installing the program, click START, Programs, New Kids Media, and then RIGHT click the Bibleland.com ICON. Select Properties and check the box "Run in Windows 95 (or 98) Mode." If however you get a "projector skeleton" error message starting B.com on XP, do the following. Open up your start icon's properties and change the "target" wording to "Bible16.exe" instead of Bible32.exe.
Bible Crosswords and WordSearch ---Visit our how-to tips on copying puzzles and inserting graphics. If you're running this in Vista... be sure to right click the startup icon and select run with Full Admin rights.
Big Genius Bible Trivia... "The mouse won't work on quiz screen." Solution: When you first use the program select options with your mouse. During the quiz play, however, the program only accepts keyboard commands because it's starting the gameshow where folks "buzz-in" using the keyboard. Also...use only the main number keys across the top of the keyboard, not the numbered keys on the calculator keypad. If you get a run-time error"53" File not found: 'D:\Trivia\Stages\ntitle'bmb' The solution is to delete the Trivia and Editor folders and "INSTALL" then "RUN" the Trivia Game once, BEFORE you attempt to use the editor. The Trivia install needs to copy some setup files from the CD to the C-Drive during it's first run before you edit questions. ALSO please note, the Big Genius CD MUST be in the CD-ROM drive at all times to play the game.
Bongo Loves the Bible -- Visit our Bongo Tech and Tips page.
Cal and Marty -- Visit our "Cal Tech" page here.
Charlie Church Mouse -- An "IV50" error message means your early version of XP doesn't have the Indeo 5 video codec required to run Charlie's video format. Download the Indeo 5 video codec here (1.8 mb), copy to CD and install on XP machine where Charlie will be run. Microsoft forgot to put the Indeo codec in a release of XP and later corrected the problem. OTHER possible "quick" workaround: turn down your "hardware accelerator" by opening the Windows Control Panel -> Sounds-> Audio tab-> Advanced-> Performance tab-> slide accelerator down.
Christian Click Art --the bonus utility organizer that attempts to install is NOT XP/Vista compatible. Just ignore it, then select "thumbnail" view when viewing the image on the CD through your word processor. The utility is useless.
Elijah-Jonah -- See the Elijah-Jonah Tech Page.
Exodus for PC --view "Readme" file on the CD for game game and tech helps. Will not run in XP that has a digital video cabled monitor (DVI mode). Notes: Arrow Keys = Move Moses around the level; Space Bar = Moses speaks the word; Tab = Moses drops a staff; P = Pause/Unpause the game; R = Restart the Level (use this if you get stuck and need to start over); F1 = Menu; Esc = Exit or quit; Upon first playing Exodus, the up arrow key advances you by 5 levels on the code entry screen. Codes located on jewelcase insert.
Exodus Adventures CD --see our Exodus playing tips and tech support page
Fall of Jericho 3-D -- "Can't see how to start the game." Solution: Set screen resolution to 800x600 or higher to see the File Taskbar at the top of the screen. Click "File" "New Game." Earlier versions of Jericho may encounter an error message in the Jericho Question Editor if you put more than one space between letters or after the end of a sentence. If your Jericho question text is not appearing on the screen during the game, or only part of a question or answer is appearing, click this link to view the simple solution. If you get an I/O error using the editor, make sure you are the main user account of XP with full permissions to write to the harddrive (ie, use the editor). If you get an I/O error while trying to pull up a set in the game, make sure you have turned off the JerichoEditor program. If you get a " invalid/missing comdlg32.ocx" error message, you need to re-register it. Click here for instructions.
Jericho & Vista Compatibility Note: In order to be able to see and select question sets you create with the editor, you will need to Right click the JerichoEditor.exe file and select "run as administrator." Click here for a graphic showing you what to do.
Fluffy & God's Amazing Christmas Adventure - Visit our Fluffy Tech webpage.
Galilee Flyer -- View Galilee Flyer Tech Page here.
Grand Slam --See Bible Grand Slam above.
Good Sam the Samaritan -- "I can't get back to the Main Page" ---Make sure your screen resolution is 800x600 (not 640x480) so you can see the navigational bookmark. IF an animation stutters or the music video hiccups = you are either: a) low on RAM, b) need to adjust Quicktime's "sound out" to "wave out," c) have an old video card without much RAM on it, d) have another program running 'in the background,' e) or your computer isn't fast enough. Read Improving System Performance. Sound dropping out in mid-animation? Sound running to fast? Hissing sound? Popping? Slight crackling in some sound files that seems to go away? ...you need to make Quicktime adjustments. Read this article for help -www.sundaysoftware.com/quicktime.htm. "Mac crashes or freezes in Sam Land section." --Turn off your Virtual Memory feature.
HolyLand 3-D CD... If after loading the program the 3D terrain doesn't appear but everything else does appear, update your videodriver. One customer with a high-end recentl model laptop reported this, and updating their video driver did the trick. If your program is running slow, resize your screen resolution downward, set it to 16bit color and restart the program. Turn off other software to free up ram.
If you have VISTA... Update the HolyLand 3-D Terrain Engine free! New improved flying controls, improved detail and color rendering and Vista support. Notes on Vista and HolyLand 3-D
ILUMINA BIBLE --Some Ilumina Parent-Teacher/Student Edition versions are getting an "Index Out of Range Error" or "link" error clicking on map. Go to www.ilumina.com and download their latest update for your particular version. Ilumina Gold Premium Edition owners: If you get "missing media," go back and reinstall the program using the Full/Typical install option. If videos won't run, make sure you have Quicktime 7.3 or higher installed on your computer...it's free from www.quicktime.com. If running Vista, you will have to upgrade your version of Quicktime to 7.3 or higher in order to run Ilumina's multimedia. If you are experiencing Macromedia Projector errors, update your version of Quicktime. You may also need to open up your Quicktime Player (in the Windows Control Panel) and select Edit, then Preferences, then Advanced, then select "Safe Mode". This cures some videodriver errors.
Interactive Bible for Kids CDs...
Life of Moses/David/Jesus/Paul/Noah/Daniel etc....
"Bible Time
Theater Videos
won't play" Solution: Install
the Quicktime video program which came on the CD. Use Windows
Explorer to locate
the QTinstall program on the CD (probably named QT32.exe)
If you cannot find out how to start the program, read the Startup Tips in the General Teaching Tips for this series located at www.sundaysoftware.com/lifegene.htm. If you are getting a "requires 3 mb of virtual memory" error message when you go to run the Interactive Kids CDs in Windows XP, go to this document. If you get a "...system32\wing.dll is not a valid Windows image" you need to set the XP compatibility mode for this program to "Run as Win 98". If you get a xobglu16.dll error message, read the XP notes at bottom of this page.
Jesus in Space --if you have Win98 and get a ddraw error, you may need to install the flash player for W98. We included a copy in a folder on your CD for you. If you have version 1.0 and choose autocomplete in the Babel 4000 (Baptism), and the machine puts in the word 'squirm' the program may freeze on page 2 of the story. If you see this word, click it and change it to something else. If you have Win98 and get a 'joystick not installed' message, click OK repeatedly to make it go away.

Life of Christ-- Go to our Life of Christ Technical page at http://www.sundaysoftware.com/christ-tech.htm
Pathways Through Jerusalem... "videos won't run." "Menu animations/videos won't do anything." You need to install the version of Quicktime that came with on the Pathways CD. Look on CD1 for QT installation file. Pathways MUST have its version of Quicktime installed to run. Trying to run Pathways in a secondary user account in Windows XP will give you an "unable write to memory" error. Switch to the Main user. Note: If you are outside the U.S. and during installation you get this message: "Shadow has caused error..." view solution here. Pathways will not run on Vista.
Play & Learn Children's Bible CD -- If the songs in the Gameroom game aren't playing, it sometimes happens if you've tried to copy your program onto the harddrive. On some computers, the songs won't play from the harddrive, only from the CD. Also try resetting your display to 640x480 or 800x600. Also...take your time and don't double click the play button. This is an older program which sometimes doesn't appreciate being rushed. IF you are getting the 'wrong answer' in the ABC's/123's activity. You must "click-hold-and-drag" the correct letter into the correct spot. If you get the error message: Unable to copy the driver file c:\windows\dirdib.drv... it means you need to run this program in XP under the full administrative rights user acct and not a limited user acct. If you get a 16 bit subsystem error message, go to our XP Notes below. May not run in Vista.
Prodigal Son... CD starts slowly. Be patient. If it runs too slow from your CD, copy it to your harddrive and start it from the start.exe file. Print function in Letters may not work on some older computers. Solution: Open up your system's Printer Control Panel, get in to your printer's properties and select "draft" or "quickprint" mode (whatever your software calls it). Then go back to Prodigal Son and select "print." Here's another workaround: When students have finished typing their letter onscreen, have them hit their "printscreen" key on the keyboard. Then, open up Windows Paint (found in accessories area of operating system) and select Edit, Paste. Viola! Then select File, Page Setup and set your printer to print in "landscape mode." Then print.
Note on Quitting Prodigal Son CD.... when you select the "Done" bookmark, you are taken to a credits screen and Bildad has one final word. Press the Done bookmark again to immediately exit, or wait for him to finish and scoot off screen and press "Done."
Does Quicktime keep trying to install itself and you already have a newer version installed? This is some freaky Quicktime incompatibility thing. Cancel the install. If it still won't run, try copying the entire CD to a folder on your harddrive and starting the start.exe file. This works for most people. If it doesn't, completely uninstall ALL versions of quicktime from your computer using the Windows add/remove feature, and let Prodigal Son install it's version of quicktime.
Note on Correcting Ballad of the Prodigal Son video overlap: Some videodrivers on XP computers with Quicktime 7 seem to cause the music video to overlap the screen graphic or cause artifacts. To correct this annoyance, with the CD in the drive, Double Click My Computer, RIGHT click the Prodigal CD icon and select "Explore." Right click the Start.exe file on the CD and select Properties, then select Compatibility and set to "run as Windows98/Me". We think this could also be related to some 'wide aspect' screens and their drivers. Try resetting your screen resolution to run in 800x600.
If you update to Quicktime 7.3, Prodigal Son CD may not work on some computers. Use the latest version of QT. See the solution here.
Quickverse Life Application Multimedia Bible CD --if it asks for a registration code during installation, type "LIFE99". Otherwise just skip this step. (Their online registration process is no longer working and it's unnecessary anyway).
Ten Commandments ...Slow performance of Photobubbles or animations, or Moses animation is out of sync? It probably means your videoram and RAM is probably low and/or your processor is too slow. For better performance see "improving system performance." See also our Ten Commandments CD Tech Page.
Crashes or freezes running the Ten Commandments CD on a Mac. Turn off Mac's "Virtual Memory."> Sound dropping out in mid-animation? Sound running to fast? Hissing sound? Read this Quicktime article for help. Summit Chapel's Tablets won't print? Problem exists only an early version. Incompatibility with a printer driver. Possible fix: Open your computer system's printer control panel. Select "draft mode" or "quick print" (or similar) then print the tablets. Note: A copy of the tablets in graphic form is also provided on the CD. Another Workaround: When students have finished typing onscreen, have them hit their "printscreen" key on the keyboard. Then, open up Windows Paint (found in accessories area of operating system) and select Edit, Paste. The screen shot will appear. Then select File, Page Setup and set your printer to print in "landscape mode." Then print. NOTE: If your CD is silver with black lettering, or white with silver lettering, you have the improved version of the Summit and are ok. "Script Error" in the Cliff Climb Quiz-- ...This problem affected a small number of early version CDs due to an error in duplication. Either "Bypass" the quiz and continue to the Summit, or return your CD to us for an exchange.

Video, Animation, Video Clip, & Sound Problems Slow or Stuttering Animations and Videos: Could be your computer is too slow. First, reboot and see if that helps. You may need to free up RAM, or add system RAM, or get a videocard with more RAM, or get a faster computer. Turn off any virus protection or system monitoring software running in the background. "Video/Animation box is white"... you're low on RAM and the videos/animations are able to fully decompress. Read: Improving system performance. "Video or Animation seems to start but then the program skips past it." Rather than crash on low system resources your operating system may "eject" a video it decides it can't possibly play. "Videos/Animation SOUND is dropping out". This is a Quicktime 4.0 adjustment. Click here for a complete article helping you solve Quicktime 4.0 problems. Quicktime Note: If Quicktime keeps asking you to "register" ignore it. This is an annoying feature of later versions of Quicktime. A "do you want to register or buy the Pro version" message will pop up during installation and every once in a while. Just "continue" on past it. QUICKTIME VERSIONS: Quicktime 4/5/6/7 are NOT fully compatible with versions 2.x. They won't solve your problems. If your software came with Quicktime version 2, you will need to install that version on your computer from the CD. (You can have several versions). Newer versions of Quicktime come with iTUNES. This is an Apple product which runs on Windows or Mac. You don't need the version of Quicktime that comes with iTunes if you don't want it. To determine how much VIDEORAM you have, READ our Diagnosing Problems page at www.sundaysoftware.com/dxdiag. It will tell you how to test your system and get system info that we'll need to help you. |
Windows VISTA and our software...
View our VISTA COMPATIBILITY LIST and fixes.
View our recommendation regarding Windows Vista for Sunday School computing.
If you have Vista, and our program uses Quicktime to run the multimedia in its content, you may have to download the latest free version of Quicktime from www.quicktime.com to run in Vista. If you're running an older program that was made with and comes with Quicktime 2.1, you will need to install THAT version of QT as well.
In some cases, you will need to set the program's startup icon for compatibility to "Run as Windows XP" program. And you may need to select "Run as administrator" from an admin account. Right click the program's startup icon to make the adjustments. See each program's documentation or listing above on this page for help. VISTA is obsessive about security, and sometimes obtrusively so. So expect to make some tweaks. We're here to help you through it.
Windows XP and our software...
Windows XP has proven to be VERY good at running older software in our catalog. But sometimes you have to tweak a thing or two.
Please note: To properly run many programs in Windows XP you must be "logged on" as the Admin User with full "administration" privileges. Some programs, such as Cal & Marty and Kid Pix 3, and Joseph can only be run from the main user account because they need to write info to the hard drive to keep scores, save games, etc. If you're trying to use Pathways CDs for example, you might get a "write to memory" error message if you are in a secondary user account.
Everything in our catalog TODAY works fine in XP when you're in the main user account with full administrative privileges.* Older versions of Life of Christ purchased from us prior to March 2002 need an XP patch to run properly. Newer versions of Life of Christ have the patch. See the Life of Christ tech note above for more details. Bibleland.com needs to be run in "Windows 98" "compatibility mode." This is an option in XP in the program's start file "properties" menu. See Bibleland.com entry above.
If you have XP and are getting the following error message, "Director requires 3mb virtual memory." click here.
If you have Windows XP and are getting the following error msg: "Unable to copy the driver file c:\windows\dirdib.drv to windows directory..." You need to install/run the program in the Full Administrative rights user account on your computer, not a limited user acct or network acct.
If you receive a 16bit subsystem c:windows\system32\autoexec.nt error message when trying to run an older program, it means that file is corrupt or missing from XP. Might have been deleted by a bad uninstall of another program. Could be a virus too, so run a virus
scan. Google the file name "c:windows\system32\autoexec.nt" and you will see that Microsoft has a way to fix it. The easiest way to fix it is this: Go to another XP computer and search for the file "autoexec.nt". Copy to a diskette and install on the computer which is missing the file in its c:\windows\system32 folder.
If you get an error message "...system32\wing.dll is not a valid Windows image" you need to run the Compatibility mode for this program and select "Run as Win 98." Click START, Programs, and find the start icon for the program in question. then RIGHT click the start ICON and select properties. Then check the box "Run in Windows 95 (or 98) Mode." This change will only affect how XP runs that particular program.
If you get a Director 5.0 error message regarding xobglu16.dll or (obglu16) when running any of the Interactive Kids Series of CD (Life of Paul, etc), run the program under the Main Admin acct instead of a limited user acct. If you want to tweak the system to run it under a limited user account you'll need to follow the procedure detailed at this other tech site. Here's the quickie summary: Log on as Admin, launch the Interactive Kis program. Now use Windows key to switch to Desktop. Start My Computer and look in the C:\Windows folder for xobglu16.dll (make sure you have UNhidden system files). Right click that file and click Properties. Then select "read only" and OK. Now go back to the program and quit. This will keep this file in the Windows directory for the Limited User acct to find and run the program. Now relaunch program in limited user acct to test.
Many of our Win/Mac programs will run on OS 8/9 or OS X in classic mode, or straight in OS X. However please note that newer Intel-based Mac's do not support "Classic Mode" and thus a program which will work on OS9 in Classic mode under OSX on a G4, will not, or may not run on a G5 running OS X with an Intel based processor. For this and other reasons, we do NOT recommend Mac computers for Christian education use.
Additionally, we are concerned about the backwards compatibility of some of our Win/Mac software on Mac OS X machines with MacIntel chips. Some of the authoring programs used to create the OSX native software may not be compatible with MacIntel machines. As we update/tweak programs and create new ones, this incompatibility should disappear, but for now, it's a load of headaches. Yet another reason.. to buy Windows machines at this date in time if you want to use Christian software.
Windows 2000
Some of our software apparently runs in W2000, but we have enough that won't due to W2000 being a boorish business operating system. We don't recommend W2000 -period. XP is widely considered to be Microsoft's admission that W2000 should have been better.
Having said that...here are some tech helps if you're stuck with W2000. Try to switch the compatibility mode for the program to "Run as a Windows 95/98 program". And if you are using an older piece of software, such as Bibleland.com CD, change the target startup file in the startup icon to Bible16.exe instead of the 32bit exe.
Other W2000 things to check into...Make sure you are running the program in the regular main user account and not one that has limited privileges. Download the latest upgrades to W2000. Here is an excellent website to help you "adjust" W2's compatibility settings to run "some" Win 95/98 software. No guarantees. http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/win2k_compatiblity/index.shtml
Linux
We do not support Linux. Most Christian software was neither designed to run on it, nor tested on it.
DirectX ...Some problems with newer multimedia intense programs may be the result of an out of date version of DirectX in your Windows operating system. You might get an error message similar to "unable to link xxxx.exe to ddraw.dll" go to www.sundaysoftware.com/dxdiag for help.
