Sandals Bible Atlas CD is a unique an inexpensive software resource for everyone who seeks to better understand and teach the Bible.

The program is great for teaching presentations, Sunday School, home schoolers, students in private Christian schools, Bible college and seminary students, teacher prep, small group leaders, pastors, missionaries, or personal Bible study.

Sandals incorporates "overlay" components that relate to specific locations on colorful, east oriented, high-resolution satellite maps. (East oriented, meaning, the way the ancients viewed the land.) The program graphics reflect an inviting and intuitive interface with drop-down menus and navigation buttons.

Each location includes a "profile" with its own unique set of resources such as photos, articles, scripture references and videos.

Over the years a lot of boring Bible Atlases have been produced. Some of them are quite expensive and heavily advertised. Many Bible atlas CDs today lack quality multimedia and their articles are dry and uninteresting. Sandals Bible Atlas overcomes these traditional deficiencies.

Uniquely, Sandals atlas has a strong focus on Jesus' ministry, showing you the places where he walked and how the geography  is part of that story. Most other Bible atlases IGNORE the ministry of Jesus.

Ages 11 to adult.
This is an excellent program for teachers to KICK OFF your LESSONS with, use for your own study, or use in combination with other good multimedia Bible software. Our typical customer for this CD are pastors, teachers and Bible students.

Sandals doesn't have a big advertising budget, or wide distribution. It's earning its reputation through its users. We've been a Sandals fan ever since it came out. It's great to use with students, or to illustrate a Bible study you're leading, or for personal study.

What makes Sandals a good multimedia Bible Atlas...

  • Sandals is full of multimedia. It isn't just a collection of still maps and academic articles like other Bible atlases.
  • Sandals has interesting on-location videos and hundreds of location photos. The videos are narrated and hosted onscreen by Professor Terry Hulbert of Columbia Int'l Seminary. Terry's knowledge and intriguing insights into the locations are a pleasure to learn from. These aren't just short videos either, many last several minutes long.
  • Sandals is easy to use.
  • Sandals has a wide age range. Pastors and teachers will learn from it. Older children and youth too.
  • Sandals sprouts an electronic "highlighter" that a presenter can use to draw on the maps.
  • PRINTABLE maps and text! You can even copy/paste article text into your own documents or print them out with photos intact. Really nice for making handouts.
  • Several high quality "photobubbles" of Bible locations --360 degree photos you can turn around in using your mouse. Very dramatic, especially the one by the Sea of Galilee.
  • Sandals is ecumenical, and written in a friendly, interesting style.
  • Sandals is reasonably priced... something many lesser Bible Atlas are not.

Other Highlights:

"Points to Ponder" at the end of every article. These "points" include questions and suggested follow-up activities which younger students can pursue.

"Guided Tours" ...Version 2.0 boasts FOURTEEN  animated "flash presentations" that are in effect mini-lessons. See the graphic below for the list of "Guided Tours."

120 Location Profiles  --learn the story behind the places in the Bible, what made them significant.

Dr. Hulbert's 34 In-Depth Articles written in an insightful knowledgeable and engaging style. All article text can be cut and pasted with your mouse into a handout.

Sandals Atlas does not cover the entire Bible. It focuses on the stories which happened in Israel. It's maps and materials have a strong focus on Jesus' ministry. This is unusual for Bible atlas software. That said, Sandals includes some Old Testament maps related to the Conquest of Canaan, and David.

The SEVEN Jesus map lessons include video, articles, 'Points to Ponder' and lots of photos:

  • Birth and Childhood
  • Baptism and Temptation
  • Introductory Ministry
  • Early Ministry
  • Jesus' Growing Fame and Controversy
  • Jesus' Climax of Popularity
  • Jesus' Ministry in Gentile Areas

Please note: Sandals is a journey in the land of the Bible and does not have Paul maps. Maps of Paul's missionary journeys can be found, oddly enough, in Discovery's Life of Christ CD. These maps are for on computer use. While there is a trick to printing them, they are designed to be interactive computer-based color maps.

MORE NOTES:

Here are a few of the Bible Atlases we've compared Walking in Their Sandals. Read our comparison here.

  • Parsons Bible Atlas
  • Accordance Bible Atlas
  • Logos Bible Atlas
  • Manna Bible Maps Deluxe
  • Carta's Bible Atlas

These other map programs have a lot of maps, but Sandals has the best looking maps, most interestingly written content, most interactivity, the most multimedia features and is the only one with on- location video. And Sandals is the least expensive one of the bunch!

Sandals concentrates on the stories which happened in ISRAEL. It does not include Paul, Exodus, or Babylonian Captivity maps.

Why doesn't it have a complete set? ...because Sandals Bible maps are not just still photos. Other Bible Atlas programs can have a hundred maps because they aren't interactive. Sandals Atlas maps ARE truly interactive and thus there is a limitation to how many you can fit on one CD.

Sandals interactive maps do not include stories from the Babylonian Exile. Other Bible Atlas CDs have these sorts of maps. They're also graphically dull and multimedia poor.

How does Sandals Atlas compare to other Bible Atlas CDs on the market today? Read our comparsion and compare the features and graphics for yourself.

Some maps have more info, photos and interactivity than others. For example, Bethsaida (feeding of the 5000) has an interactive map, article, video and photos. Sandals Version 1.0 does not have a 'complete' set of every Bible map, though more are expected in version 2.0 according to the developer if version 1.0 does well enough to warrant ver 2.

Pastors, Preachers and Travelers...

Sandals Atlas has a tremendous wealth of photos and videos to illustrate sermons and lessons when projected using a data projector. Dr. Hulbert's extended articles get behind the stories and often examine how geography played a role in the stories.

The content is scholarly (without feeling like you're back in school) and ecumenical.

The writing is crisp, with an eye to both the archaeological, geographical and biblical importance of each location.
