About the authors: Neil MacQueen and Melissa Hansche created what became known as the Workshop Rotation Model back in 1990 when they worked together at the Presbyterian Church in Barrington Illinois (in suburban Chicago). Neil was the Associate Pastor and Melissa the Children's Educator. Over several years Melissa and Neil sold at cost and then later gave away over a thousand copies of their original and then updated Rotation Manual through rotation.org. A free excerpt of this manual is still available at rotation.org. However, due to contractual obligations the entire manual cannot now be given away. It is our hope that by publishing the book the Model will get a wider hearing, revitalize more Sunday Schools, and ultimately make possible new Rotation resources. Neil moved back to Central Ohio from the Barrington church in 1996 to form Sunday School Software Ministries, -whose site you have now entered to order this book.
The book, Workshop Rotation ~a new model for Sunday School, describes our Sunday School, what we thought was wrong with it, what, how and why we changed, as well as, results and reaction. It includes a philosophy, design, and implementation plan for Workshop Rotation as well as a sample Rotation lesson set. The book discusses variations in Workshop teaching media, schedules and decor, in addition to ideas for implementing the model in shared space, small and large churches. It even includes pictures! The Workshop Rotation book is often assigned reading in seminary classes. Most recently we've heard that the "Arts in Religious Education" at Candler School of Theology (Advanced Course of Study) is using Workshop Rotation book as their text book. It has also been used in classes at McCormick Theological in Chicago, and Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus.
Neil's other book, Computers, Kids and Christian Education -the revised edition (Augsburg 2001) describes why churches might consider using computers in C.E., and how to set-up and successfully run a Bible computer lab. The book is written in non-technical language for Christian educators. You can read more about the book at www.sundaysoftware.com/manual.htm. A free update to the book is also available.
