Special Prodigal Son Tech Note

November 2007:

WE have at least one computer where an upgrade to Quicktime 7.3 caused ONE of the video/animation files in Prodigal Son to NOT work. Unfortunately it was the opening one! It then forces the Prodigal Son's installer to appear and attempt to install an older version of Quicktime that we put on the CD. (However, you don't want the older version unless your computer is completely without QT or a later version.)

(By the way... The notice says "10 Commandments will now install Quicktime 4.0"...  However, the "10 Commandments" wording is an artifact caused by reuse of the code, ignore it.)

The problem is that one of the videos on the CD in the "media" folder has a video codec which apparently the newer QT 7 doesn't understand when attempting to play the program FROM the CD in your drive.  You will get an error msg numbered "2048."

This is a Quicktime 7.3 BUG that will likely be fixed in a subsequent QT update. Remember to update your Quicktime software in the near future IF you have 7.3.  Fortunately, Apple keeps making new updates (fixes) for QT.

Easy Solution:

1. Copy all the contents of the CD into a folder on your harddrive.

2. Start the program from the START.exe file in the new folder. You no longer need the CD to run the program.

For some reason this solves the problem. We don't know why.

When running it from the harddrive, you will still get an error msg at the beginning of the program that says you need to UPDATE your version of Quicktime. Click CANCEL and the program will continue. This is an erroneous msg.

Another Solution:

1. Open the Windows Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel and remove all versions of quicktime from your computer. Reboot then slide the Prodigal CD in your drive and allow it to install QT 4. Then...go upgrade quicktime to version 7.4 or higher.

Another thing you may notice:

On some computers with wide-aspect resolutions, the music video in SonTV music appears to jump out of it's tv graphic. No big deal, just not the way it was designed!  Try resetting your screen resolution to 800x600 (4:3 ratio).
