Letters

This section is designed for student reflection and discussion.

Tregg: the graphic is old and may not reflect current wording. Check below...

The Basic Idea: In this page's activity, the kids will type and print letter as if they were writing as one of the characters in the story.

The LOGO graphic for this Offering of Letters page should feature the word "Letters" and show some lined paper and a QUILL moving across the words "Dear Dad, I want to apologize for...."

On left side kids can select from a list of letters to write. When they select one of the letters to write, the screen on the right side "activates" and a "From the Desk of _____" title appears at top. This "from the desk of..." should appear on final printout. Also on final printout you might throw some program graphics on it like you did on the Ten Commandments printout. Please also remember to include a BMP of a "generic letter" on the CD just in case we have printer problems like mine.

Kids type the letter then click on the PRINTER icon on bottom of screen. Use the printer graphic from Ten C's Chapel. Also, put the keyboard from Ten C's chapel at bottom of screen for a little decor.

Tregg....the PAGE PRINTOUT should look like the ENTIRE SCREEN ITSELF (like a screen capture). So should be printed in LANDSCAPE if you can. The printout should ALSO include a tag line in fine print:
"Printed from Sunday Software's Prodigal Son CD. Copyright 2000 www.sundaysoftware.com"

Trash can from chapel is also seen. When clicked on it asks the kids if they want to clear the text. (Erase letter text? Yes No)

Here is the EXACT TEXT =in blue= that is seen on the LEFT SIDE OF THE SCREEN:
The black text is the wording for the letterhead that should appear.

Tregg....I think it will be VERY difficult to get all this text on the LEFT hand side if it has to appear all at once. The old "pull down" menu seems too business like, but I think some sort of fun "version" of a "letters" menu would be nice. For example.... You could list all the letter types in REALLY small lettering and as the kids rolled over each it would ENLARGE.

---------------------------

"Imagine that the father and two sons wrote letters explaining their feelings to each other. What would be in them? Select a letter to write, then print it and share it with others. You can also write your own letter."

+ Dear Son, I'm worried about you and want you to come back home... A Father's concern to his Prodigal Son in a distant land. (From the Desk of Your Father)

+ Dear Father, This is why I left and why I want to come home... A Prodigal's confession and what he's learned. (From the Pig Pen of your Son)

+ Dear Oldest Child, This is why I welcomed him home and how you should treat him... A Father's letter to his upset oldest son. (From the Desk of Your Father)

+ Dear Family, Now that we're all back together... The Father's expectations of the Prodigal Son and Oldest Son. (From the Desk of Your Father)

+ Dear Dad and Bro', I am upset with you two because... A letter from the Older Brother to his father and brother. (From the Desk of the Older Brother )

+ Dear God, I'm sorry about... A letter from you to God confessing your sins and discussing the changes you need to make... (From the Desk of a Prodigal)

+ Dear Children.... A letter from God about your life and how God wants to be involved... (From the Desk of God)

+ Dear.... (Write your own letter)

When kids select one of the above letter categories, a "From the Desk of....." title appear on the letter head.

Tregg: Place TWO BUTTONS somewhere on screen which allow kids to select and play one of two songs:

1) Ballad of Prodigal Son
2) Native Son

I need to get you the CD of Steve Lindsley's "Native Son" song.
