Old Bible Movie Poster Collection

I started collecting old Bible movie posters several years ago. As Shelley and I search for posters, we occasionally turn up one that's quite old and very collectible. In fact, one of the biggest problems I have is deciding which of the old ones to keep and which to provide at this page. I grew up with watching these movies and movie stars on late-night at the movies, the afternoon flicks, and the like. I'm sure many of you have too. I get a kick out of old Bible movies, especially the hollywood stylized way the actors and directors portrayed these stories. Shelley just thinks they're "old like dad."

I've often wondered about the impact these movies had on my faith. Were Charleton Heston, Stewart Granger and Ava Gardner evangelists? Perhaps so. The tradition continues.... Some of the Bible movie posters on Shelley's preceding page --King David, TNT's Joseph, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Prince of Egypt are sharing God's word with a whole new generation. Ok, it's Hollywood, -but read your Old Testament, it's a bit Hollywood too.

Sale profits from Dad's collection are given to mission and CE projects. We as a family discuss and make disbursements. The posters in Dad's Old Collection are true collector's items. It is my hope that these posters will end up framed in churches and in the hands those who enjoy these movies.

Please read the following descriptions carefully. Sometimes we don't have any of these in stock. These are the ones we look for, but they are hard to find.

I usually find one of these about every other month...

Jesus Christ Superstar movie posters from the original movie are next to impossible to find. Andrew Lloyd Weber's production company just isn't into posters and Universal doesn't make reproduction posters for previous releases. JC Superstar has quite a fan following and items related to the production are quite collectible. Hence, Shelley and Dad's price varies depending on what she has.

We currently has only <0> in stock. Her last one was the best we've ever seen. We usually find one every 60 days. Ordering it will get you on a waiting list. These are original full-size posters from the movie.This one is in MINT condition, $55 plus $5.00 to ship.

If the current stock says <zero> you can request to be put on our waiting list for this popular poster. We've seen the same poster offered by collectors for as high as $180. Our JCSuperstar prices vary depending on how much we pay for them.

JC Superstar posters may come rolled or folded, depending on how they were originally sent to the theaters. They may have pin holes at corners which can be hidden by a frame. JC Superstar posters may have some of the seams taped on the back. This is common among older posters from the "folded" era (before they began rolling them). Slightly larger than standard poster size. If you're a JCS fan, like Shelley and her dad, we also have two or three other Superstar posters, including stunning photo/poster from "JCS A.D." performance. Email us.

Dad says: "JC Superstar is another terrific movie to teach with. I've done so at least 4 times with teens. Someday I'll post my notes. Shelley digs those bell bottoms."

The rarest poster in our collection:

Sodom and Gomorrah
Starring Stewart Granger as Abraham

Approximately 26" x 38"

This is the most detailed "Old Bible Movie" poster I've ever seen. Printed on heavy paper. Great condition.
It's quite a collector's piece.

Price: $50

This movie was considered so "racy" when it first came out that many movie theaters banned it. A close-up look at the movie poster's "scenes from the movie" will show you why.

 

Rare Jesus Christ Superstar Movie Lobby Cards --

Mint condition numbered (which means limited) lobby cards used to promote the JCS movie. Cards feature movie logo, purple border with large professional color photos from some of the movie's most famous scenes. Bright, colorful, originals on very heavy card stock.

Approx 16x22 each. Heavy card stock. Perfect condition. Remaining lobby cards: Getting off the Bus (seen left), Judas being chased by tanks, Jesus w/women and children, King Herod & Entourage.

Mint condition, numbered, crisp and colorful. Price: $20 each.

Famed Director John Huston's
The Bible

The Bible stars Peter O'Toole, Richard Harris and more. In 'very good' condition for its age. I've only ever seen two other of these. One looks like the graphic above. The other was a vertical version of the poster. Very good condition for a poster this old. It sold for $35.

Up until then I had never seen this particular one anywhere--an original Godspell Broadway artwork posterboard. 14" x 22 1/2" It's a great example of late 60's "album style" art.

Jeffrey Hunter as Jesus and everybody else in Hollywood in one role or another. In good condition. It sold for $40.

Dame Peggy Wood plays a wonderful Naomi and steals the flick. She was the mother superior in Sound of Music too. As old Bible movies go, this one generally receives four stars.

Last but not least I thought you movie buffs might enjoy seeing this very unusual "poster" from THE ROBE
starring Richard Burton and Jean Simmons

Talk about rare.... This was a very large "3 sheet" vintage theatre poster, approximately 4' x 6.5' folded in two pieces in good condition (folds will flatten). For use as large poster or wallpaper. Extremely unique. It sold for $65 to a friend in a church I once served in on the condition that they preserve it (the paper was starting to tear a bit due to its extra large size).

The Robe was THE first movie ever made in Cinemascope. If you haven't seen the movie, I suggest you rent it. It's very well acted and gives an interesting look into the first century christian community. Burton plays a soldier who is converted to Christianity. It also starred Vic Mature (who served during WWII with my father) as a Roman soldier who saves Jesus' robe and saves Christians from "the games."

Several of the posters on this page were originally used in theaters. Some were originally folded as was the practice way back when. Those that were folded sometimes have reinforcing tape at time-worn seams. That's part of their charm and authentication. You will want to immediately frame these collectibles to protect them and enjoy them for years to come. All or in collectible condition ranging from "mint" to "good." No bad ones here.
