The two photos below show the "Computer Oasis" at
First Pres, Richardson TX.

Very nice! Notice the effort to reduce sound and line-of-sight between the computers.

This Texas church computer lab won best lab decor in our 2000 contest. What a neat room. Visit our Contest Winners Page for some great photos and winning essays from previous years.

Some people have said that computers are a "guy thing".
These girls would happily disagree.

Calvary UMC in Stuarts Draft VA sent in this photo below of their Sr. Highs introducing Bible software to their special needs people.

At first look, this photo above from Palmer Memorial Church in Houston may not seem interesting. But upon closer inspection you can see the adult working the mouse, while the student runs the keyboard in Bongo Loves the Bible CD. I'll bet these two really enjoyed the lesson together.

"Extra" CDs get put to creative use in computer labs.

Spirit of Hope UMC in Golden Valley MN
Notice what the CDs spell-out.

I often show the above awesome photo from Christ Community in Arvada CO at seminars. It demonstrates several things:

1) The correct position of the teacher at the computer.
2) The fact that kids don't mind learning in groups at the computer.
3) The intense concentration software can command.

This photo was one of our top winners in our Dec 2007 Photo Contest. We loved the way it showed the intent focus students give software, even when the camera is present.
from Neshanic Reformed in Hillsborough NJ

Here's what the lab looked like at a church I used to volunteer at:

We originally themed our room as a Computer Oasis. Below you can see the false wall treatment we created in the corner around the door. What an improvement it made in the room! Those are 2x8x10 cardboard boxes fixed to a frame and gently tacked to the door frame. It almost stands on its own. We have four PCs.

Below is how it looks with our dividers in place to help reduce sound. Note the fake tree to fill the corner. Those are CDs on the wall. We have been given tons of them by members. (Thanks AOL.)

This next one below shows Chris, one of my teen helpers, kneeling down in the middle of the fray. The kids are gathered for a team quiz using Fall of Jericho CD.

These two below are from my church's Summer of 2000 computer lab which we did in camping tents (it was a hit).

Below is a good example of "how to decorate your computer" for a special theme or program you are using. This lab was using Bongo Loves the Bible CD all summer.

I also like where the teacher is in this photo above.
Sitting down and being "with" the kids at the computer
is the best way to teach.

Dave Esche from 1st Pres Geneseo Illinois snapped this photo above on the day Moses visited their computer lab. The funny thing is, the kids are still glued to the Christian education software.

Jim, Newtown Presbyterian's lab leader, is a retired gentlemen. He sent this photo above and informed me they are going from 6 to 8 computers to keep up with the attendance increase they've been experiencing.

Here is a picture from my first lab at the Presbyterian Church in Barrington Illinois
circa 1991

This is the lab I got started in. That's a 386PC with the original DOS version of Parson's Bible Atlas onscreen. You know, we had as much fun then as we do now, but the software and hardware is definitely better these days.

This picture from Palma Ceia Pres in Tampa has always been a favorite of mine because the computer is not seen in the photo.

Have you noticed in nearly every photo on this webpage the level of engagement and focus you can see in the eyes and body of the people in the photos? ...not to mention the smiles. That's why I like teaching with computers.

Here's an amazing setup. I would be a little concerned, however, about the sound between computers. They most likely solved it by putting headphones on their kids.

in Australia sent in by Avis Miller.

Love this photo from Trinity Church in Arlington VA because it shows two kids working together at one computer, the teacher seated and helping another student, and a nice divider between the two computers that doesn't cut off the teacher's view of the computer next to her.
