Pathways features 9 onscreen guides each set in their own multimedia "pathway" that tours the religious, social, military and archaeological history of Jerusalem.

This 2 CD set has been one of the most acclaimed offerings since it first appeared in our catalog. It has been called "the best religious software ever produced" and we don't disagree. There are other "guided tour" travelogue CDs of Jerusalem. Pathways is way beyond them in quality, depth of multimedia, and presentation concept. We're proud to be the exclusive distributor of this amazing 2 CD program.

Please note:  Runs great in Windows 98/Me/XP.

Pathways does not run in Vista or Windows 7.

For those with XP...this is still a great program. We're sad that we'll soon not be carrying it. Get them while they last!

Pathways features five historical guides:

King David
, King Herod, Queen Helena (Byzantine period -- Constantine's mother)  Dirk the Crusader, and Suleiman the Magnificent (Islamic period). Their portrayals are full of wit, scholarly insights, interesting historical footnotes and a surprising amount of humor. They each appear onscreen at-length. Each of their pathways lasts over 35 minutes and offers many multimedia and content options to explore at your own pace.

King David (pictured right) is one of the most popular tours. He is both insightful AND funny. One of my favorite parts is when he pulls out his wallet to show you his children. His tour of Solomon's Temple is the favorite portion of Pathways for most Sunday Schools.

King Herod's tour of Jerusalem and his animated display of how he rebuilt the Temple is led by a very funny actor who portrays Herod as a megalomaniac with a Brooklyn accent. His "desire to be appreciated" is great lesson fodder.

Queen Helena leads you on an expectedly regal tour of the many churches she built, including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Dirk the Crusader is a bloke who just got back from a Crusade. Dirk gives an entertaining cockney overview of the Crusades which in reality were not so entertaining. His tour sheds light on the historic animosities which have plagued Muslim, Jewish and Christian relations for centuries.

Four of the video guides are contemporary & clever:

  • A Modern Jew who tells about the founding of the state of Israel.
  • A Christian who tours you to the places Jesus went in Jerusalem.
  • A Palestinian Muslim
  • And a Secular tour bus operator.

Each modern guide describes the sites in Jerusalem that are holy to their particular faith. Azziz' Muslim tour of Jerusalem delves into the religious belief of Islam. It's balanced and well done.

Pictured: Azziz's Muslim Tour of the city and Temple Mount is very informative and discusses Islamic worship practices and history.

Those who have visited or studied Jerusalem will FEAST on the content in this CD. In fact, we often get orders for Pathways from those who are going to visit or have been there and want to enjoy the sites again and learn more.

Please note the important Pathways' system details before purchasing.

Navigating Pathways...

Pictured Right/Above next to King David you can see a control panel popping up in King David's pathway. It allows you to navigate backwards and forwards in his pathways. Click on the word "pathmap" seen in the pop up and you can view a handy overview of the pathway.

Pictured Right: Throughout each of the nine presentations Pathways pauses to offer the user various "explore in depth" options of both a scriptural and archaeological nature. They are called "Source," "Discovery" and "Legend."

Legend is one of my favorites. In it the program presents you with interesting historical tidbits that have a twist, or whose story comes from non-biblical sources, such as the story of the two brothers who's threshing floor became the location for the Temple.

Another unique option in each pathway is the TIME MORPH option seen above/left. It appears throughout the program. Say for example, you're in Herod's Jerusalem Temple tour and you wonder how his Temple compares to David's. Click "Time Morph" and you can jump right into David's pathway where he is touring Solomon's Temple.

Example of Pathways content:
King David begins by introducing himself, and telling the story of how Israel became a nation under his leadership. His tour of Solomon's Temple is probably the most popular part of Pathways. It includes an animated-illustrated discussion of altar sacrifice and how the Israelites worshipped in the Temple. Following his Temple presentation viewers are given the option to jump back to a spot in his presentation, or dive into four related options: SOURCE- view a scripture passage about the Temple; DISCOVERY- hear narration and view picture about the only known Temple artifact in existence; LEGENDS & Related Traditions- A brief animated retelling of the sacrifice of Isaac on Mt. Moriah (temple mount); MORPH- jump to other guided tours that deal with the Temple and Temple Mount. What I've described here is only about 20% of the material in David's tour.

How much Video is in Pathways?
Those of you who are used to programs with skimpy video clips, be prepared. The tour guides appear AT LENGTH throughout Pathways in video windows that are integrated into the Jerusalem surroundings they are discussing.  This attention to artistic detail is rarely seen in videos found in other programs. And the guides are far more than "talking heads, they are well acted, and interact with their surroundings. Pathways is a very clever program.

Theologically Speaking....the program is scholarly and well mainstream. Much of the archaeological and historical information is straight from the pages of such magazines as Biblical Archaeological Review.
