Joe 2.0's Game Plot and Content:

Like it's predecessor, Joseph 2.0 is a 3-D style lesson-game that tells the whole story of Joseph. Your students guide "Robin MacTavish," a teenage archaeologist, through the underground ruins of Joseph's palace recently discovered beneath the Egyptian sands by her grandfather, Sir Dabney MacTavish. Their conversation during the adventure helps tell the story and guide your students. (If you've seen our terrific Exodus Adventures CD, you've already met Robin and Sir Dabney.)

Joseph has left his amazing story behind in his mysterious palace for future generations to discover. But he's also made getting through the palace rather challenging and fun.

Robin meets her Grandfather, Sir Dabney MacTavish, in the dig tent, then journeys into the underground ruins to encounter the story. As Robin is guided by your students through the ruins, they trace the path of the story of Joseph --the coat of many colors, the dreams, the well of rejection, Potiphar's house, Pharaoh's prison, the Baker and Cupbearer's dreams, Pharaoh's Dreams, famine service to Pharaoh, and reconciliation with Joseph's brothers.

As she's exploring the ruins, Robin gets too close to the well and falls in it. --And that's when the real adventure begins. The ruins begin to think that Robin is Joseph. The slave traders come after her. Potiphar's wife has her arrested and thrown in prison. She finds the Baker and Cupbearer and hears their stories. She solves Pharaoh's dream. And only when Robin finds the cup of Benjamin do the game/ruins return to normal.

When Robin finds her Grandpa Dabney again at the exit of the dig site, she gives him Benjamin's cup which triggers a final event: Joseph's brothers appear and talk with Robin. She hears what's in their hearts --and ponders the true meaning of Joseph's story.

Teaching Notes:

Joseph's Story CD is a game that's laid out like a lesson. You play through the scenes and narrations of Joseph's life. Students encounter the characters in the story who have something to say. They must figure out certain parts of the story in order to advance. In other locations, There are places in the game that seem to trap Robin, and she must play her way out. Along the way Robin finds her grandfather's Bible Study notes and questions which your students can answer then by filling in a worksheet we've provided our guide, or discussing them with their teacher after the game is over.

Ideally, the game REINFORCES your previous Bible study of the story. But the game itself is a good introduction to the overall story, --as it plays through the Bible story elements in sequence.

We've added a "Jump Menu" in Joseph 2.0 allowing teachers or students to jump ahead to any point in the story. Ideally, they should go through the whole game to see the big picture, but we know that occasionally time is short, or you need to advance quickly during your preview & preparation. Just press "ESC" anywhere in the program to select a story segment.

Please note: Joseph's Story IS challenging.  Older children and youth will need about 30 to 35 minutes to play through it. Younger children may need help navigating (and will love it just the same). We strongly encourage teachers to print the free game guide (it includes a map and shortcuts). And we strongly recommend printing the free Student guide and Worksheet to guide your students. Click here to see the Joseph 2.0 Outline and Teacher's Guide.

Age Range:
Ages 9 through young adult.
Ages 5 to 8, with help.

Younger children will need a guide's assistance to play the game. The story is heavily narrated throughout which helps all ages, but especially younger children. Younger children will need help navigating and completing some tasks, but will enjoy it immensely. The interiors and characters are authentic looking, but there's nothing particularly scary.

To help guide your students, print Sir Dabney's Guide for Students. It has questions to answer along the way.

About our REMAKE of Joseph's Story CD...

We felt this was such an important story that we wanted to update our original Joseph's Story game (version 1) made in 2003. The advancements in gaming tools, and the LEVEL OF COMPUTING POWER which most of our customers now have -allowed us to SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVE the game play and appearance of Joseph's Story on the screen.

We've also got a lot of good feedback with Joseph 1.0 in the classroom. It was quite a hit, and that advice has made 2.0 even better. The graphics are richer and sharper. The game play is a little more straightforward, and doesn't take as much time as version 1. Plus you can easily jump ahead or back in version 2.

Why a 3-D style game?
More than just up/down left/right, in this 3D style game -players must navigate Robin through the ruins, down passageways, around corners, and up staircases using their keyboard and mouse. Such navigation requires constant focus, and the forward moving goal-oriented gameplay makes the program extremely engaging to the learner's senses. It harnesses their desire to "win" the game. If you're unsure what we mean by "3D style" then view our
Joseph 2.0 Movie Trailer which shows the game in action.

As well...
The biblical story of Joseph is HUGE. It has many, many episodes. And for such stories, we have found that goal-oriented 3-D game landscapes are well-suited to unfolding one story episode after another, --helping students remember all the parts of a big story. Unlike many 3d games in which you can get lost, Joe 2.0 really only has ONE direction for the player to go: through the story. And unlike some games which defeat a player, in Joseph 2.0, we haven't made it so hard to navigate that you can lose. This is the difference between a Christian education designed 3-D game and other 3-D Christian that have come and gone on the market.
