Version Notes and Download Page

Joseph's Story CD is built with a 3-D Game Engine. One of the advantages of this style of programming is we can make changes & additions and get them to you at no cost via downloads such as those on this page.

UPDATE: In January 2008 we released version 1.3.2 of Joseph's Story. It has all the "easy Joe" downloads mentioned on this page installed by default. It also has some new sign enhancements to make the game play easier for students. If your CD's label reads "1.3" you have the Easy Joe download in a zip file on your CD. If you have version "1.3.2" then Easy Joe is installed by default.

 Which Version Do you Have?

Check your CD's label. If it has no version number, or reads Version 1.1 or 1.2, then we strongly recommend you download the Version 1.3 Update Files.

*These update files are not the complete game. They will only work if you install them in the same directory folder on your harddrive where your older version of Joseph is installed.

If your label says 1.3, or 1.3.1, or 1.3.2, do not download the 1.3 Update files.

Version 1.3/1.3.1/1.3.2 Enhancements, Additions, Changes

1. Changed several graphics and action triggers, including: dorm door trigger, barricades in Dream room, other misc.

2. Adjusted sound file during helicopter flight to dig site. Fixed airplane stairwell so can't fall through.

3. Changed sound trigger points in Potiphar's house, moved Potiphar's wife to center of room, put graphic underwater in pool.

4. Reworked Prison Maze and Pharaoh's maze so that sound files are not so close together. Made Pharaoh's Prison a little more challenging to get through.

5. We added an executable file called Joe-easy.exe which you can install new signage in the game to make gameplay easier/more obvious.

6. We completely changed what happens after you find the cup and meet Dabs and the brothers:

  • The helicopter now flys without music
  • You can go back to Dig Tent and enter it to start journey again (and go to Bible studies) with everything unblocked.
  • Song and lyrics are in the Dig Tent at the end of game.
  • Added "Jump To" buttons in final Dig Tent allowing you to go back to any level and explore content.
  • Added a Hippo game --Robin must walk through Hippo Maze and squirt rampaging hippos while looking for the entrance back to the Dig Tent.

 

DOWNLOADING TIPS

We recommend downloading with a DSL or cable modem -where the download will take about 2-3 minutes depending on traffic. You will need to have a CD "burner" to copy the download and transport it to the computer where Joseph is installed.

Once downloaded.you must copy the downloaded file to a CD and transport to the computer which needs its Joseph files updated.

Insert your CD with Joe-update.zip into the computer's CD drive. Double click "My Computer" on the desktop of that computer, and double click the CD drive icon where the Joe-update.zip files are located. This will begin to open up the Joe-update files. They will try to install/copy themselves into c:/joseph on your harddrive.

If you receive the message "a newer file is trying to copy over an older one" in c:/joseph let the newer file copy over the old one!

Save the Update CD with the original Joseph CD.

 

Joe Easy files.... The Joe Easy download is a set of sign graphics which come with version 1.3 to make the game play a little more 'obvious' for players.

=If you have version 1.3.2 printed on the label, you already have the Joe Easy files installed.=

=If you have version 1.3 or 1.3.1 printed on your CD's label, then you have the Joe Easy files in a zip file on the CD. Install them from there.=

=If you have version 1 or 2, install the free Version 1.3 update on this page FIRST before installing the free easy Joe upgrade on this page.=

Joe Easy example: in the Dream Court we changed the sign in the court to tell players exactly what to do and in what order.

Install this file only after you have downloaded the 1.3 Update files.

Download "Easy Joe" update pack for versions 1.1 and 1.2 only. Install it ONLY AFTER you have updated versions 1 and 2 with the 1.3 Update files also found on this page. If you already have 1.3 then you already have Easy Joe in a zip file on the CD. If you have 1.3.2, Easy Joe is installed by default.

This a 2 mb file of "replacement signage" for the game which puts more clear instructions of "what to do" in various areas for younger players or for classrooms situations where the teacher wants the students to move more quickly through the game content. The new signage helps them navigate more quickly.

Clicking the Download button will bring "joe-easy.exe" to your computer. Copy it to a CD and then take it to the computer where Joseph program lives, and execute "joe-easy.exe" from the CD. "Joe-Easy.exe" is NOT included in the above mentions version 1.3 update files. Readme file comes with the Joe-easy.exe installer. Also includes copy of Gameplay Tips pdf document.

*You must have Joseph version 1.3 CD or the updated 1.3 from this website to be able to install "Easy Joe" files. Version 1.3 has a white and black CD label. Version 1.1 and 1.2 have silver and black labels.

Download the missing Indeo Video codec so that Joseph's opening video will play if it isn't already doing so.

Only download this if you have the very first edition of Windows XP and the opening video doesn't play. Microsoft left out the Indeo codec in their initial release of XP. If your version of XP is XP SP1, then you have the Indeo codec.
