fully installed to your computer,or run off of the DVD. Also included
is another
complete copy of the program on a set of CDs -just in case
your computer can't handle DVDs.
Sunday Software has
been following the Bible-ware market for years and comparing
titles. Nothing comes close to iLUMINA's multimedia
quality, content, and design. It's a true multimedia Bible,
not
just a bible database with a few pictures. This is a HUGE
collection of integrated study resources. It does have a
learning curve, but the depth and great media content makes it
worth the time.
How are our customers using
iLumina?
Most of our customers who are buying Ilumina are getting it for themselves, or for another
adult. Many will project it for adult Bible class,
or use it to prepare their lessons. Pastors find
it very helpful, especially if they're doing research
for a sermon or study away from their office. We have
teachers using iLumina to introduce lessons to their
kids. And in some Sunday Schools, the older kids and
teens are using it to dig into their Bible lesson.
iLumina is too complex for children (up to about age
11), but they DO enjoy the media if they have the help
of a teacher or parent.

Theologically Speaking:
The Life Application Study Notes,
articles and etc come from Tyndale House Publishers. They are
a traditional mainstream Christian publisher. In general the
'Life Application' material is very ecumenical, and this
Presbyterian minister found only a few things I wish they'd say
differently --about the same percentage I encounter in the average
sermon!
The Life Application Study Notes
and Commentary are very well written and insightful. They shy away being controversial -either conservatively
or liberally. One of my quick "litmus tests" with every
Bible CD is to go to the notes on the Creation story. The articles
and commentary accompanying the Creation passage in this CD do
make brief reference to the creation vs science debate. In the
graphic seen on this webpage, you can see the commentary notes
about "male and female," "image of God,"
and sexuality. I was pleased they grappled with this topic in
a balanced, non-confrontational style.
Unfortunately for some mainline
Christians and neo-conservatives, the iLumina Bible takes a very
traditional approach to some authorship and dating issues.
In Genesis, the notes say the author was "Moses" -writing
in 1420 B.C. Most students of the Bible know that, historically
speaking, Moses was named as the author of Genesis, but that
the text was indeed written/edited much later by many other authors. They
should have nuanced their attribution.
Most of the dozens upon dozens
of Bible Charts (PDF study documents you can print and
give to a class) are good. But there are a few charts that I
didn't like. For example, I'm not big on the teaching about the
apocalypse and the book of Revelation, but iLumina has a bunch
of charts for this book. Some of the Revelation charts are good,
but their chart on "Satan," for example, was out of
step with my beliefs. There are many other excellent hand-outs/charts,
however (they are black&white text documents). There is no
perfect Bible resource.
Tyndale's New Living Translation
is an actual translation,
not the paraphrase that used to go by the name of the
"Living Bible." It is a very easy to read translation
and I recommend it highly for it's READABILITY -especially for young people. Click
here to read how the NLT version translations Genesis 1. <>< Rev.
