Life of Christ in Vista...

You must UPDATE your computer's version of Quicktime to a Vista compatible version. The version on the LoC CD is not the latest. Go to www.quicktime.com. It's free.

If your version of Life of Christ CD does NOT say '3.0' on the label, you will get a "temp" error when running the program. To solve this, RIGHT click the Life of Christ startup icon, select Properties, select Compatibility and select "run as Windows 98". This will help it along. We have one customer who's Vista computer can't run LoC, but their other Vista computer can. We strongly suggest you go to your computer manufacturer's website and download all the latest drivers.

"How do I start Life of Christ?" ...and... "Program won't startup"

Life of Christ CD doesn't have an autorun or autoplay feature in Windows. So whether you're installing it, or attempting to play the CD, you need to click some icons to get it going.

To install Life of Christ, put the CD in the drive, Double Click My Computer, and double click the Setup file. Follow the promopts. Remember: Life of Christ needs version 2.x of Quicktime to run its stuff. More recent versions of Quicktime won't help.

In order to run it AFTER you have installed it, put the CD in the drive, then click START | Programs | Discovery Interactive to get to the program's startup icon. It may also install a desktop shortcut for you during installation.

Life of Christ isn't running properly or at all. ...or, you get Error messages, and "can't find" or it won't save data.

First... look at the label of your CD.

Does it say "Version 3.0" ??

If you are trying to run the newer Version 3.0 of the CD and are having a technical problems trying to get it to run on a computer AND YOU ALSO HAD an older version of Life of Christ installed sometime prior to 2004, then DO THIS: Completely uninstall the program from the computer using Windows Add/Remove. Then reinstall version 3.0. This will solve errors encountered during start-up of the program which are caused by you trying to use a new 3.0 CD on a computer where the old version installation files are still present.

If your CD is NOT Version 3.0, then you have an earlier version of the program purchased prior to March 2003 from us. It should run just fine in Win98/Me, but will need the XP patch linked below to make it fully XP compatible.

Second... If you have Windows XP and an older version of Life of Christ which doesn't say '3.0' on the label, then you need to download the XP PATCH from our website, copy it to a CD, and install it where you have installed the older version of Life of Christ on your XP computer. Go to http://www.sundaysoftware.com/xst-patch.htm for the patch and instructions.

If you have an earlier version of the Life of Christ CD and are experiencing sound drop-out or a program error in the Castle, download the patch. The patch not only adjusts the program to work in XP, but it cures the sound problem. Go to http://www.sundaysoftware.com/xst-patch.htm

Important Note for those Downloading the Patch:

If you have older versions of Life of Christ and are downloading the patch to enable your older version to work in XP, please note that your older CD/with patch installed will only work in XP's "administrator" mode. It will not work if you are in a "user" account in XP with limited privileges. You will also have to install Quicktime version 4 or higher to run the updated Life of Christ with the patch installed. Many of Sunday Software's newer programs already have Quicktime 4 or higher on the CD, and you probably have already installed Quicktime on your computer. But there's a chance you may not have installed a newer version of Quicktime on your computer, so you may also need Quicktime 4 as well as the patch. They're both free. Read more here.

If your computer lab has BOTH older and newer versions of the Life of Christ CD floating around in it, listen carefully:

If you try to play a newer version of the CD on a computer where the older version has been installed, you will get a program error. The problem is trying to run the newer version using the old start-up files/icons. You must install the newer version on the computer to get it to work.

IMPORTANT: This can get confusing in labs where you may have two older and two newer computers, and two older and two new versions of the Life of Christ CD.

To avoid this "multiple versions in your lab" installation confusion, I make two suggestions:

1. Take a sharpie and clearly write on the top of the version 3.0 CD "use only on computer #_ with Windows XP." Write on the older versions "use only on computer #_ with Windows __."

2. If you think your teachers/kids won't read your note on the top of the CD, you can do this:

Burn "backup copies" of all your new version 3.0 CDs, as many as you have older versions, and then exclusively use your 3.0 CDs and their backup copies. Archive away the original older versions. Then using your original 3.0 CDs and their copies, reinstall 3.0 on every computer, XP and earlier Windows versions. (3.0 will work on older versions of Windows). If you do not reinstall the new versions to the old computers, the new version startup icons won't work. Version 3.0 installs some new start-up routines that work differently than older versions!

This is not copyright infringement because Version 3.0 is 99.5% a technical upgrade to get it to work on XP; ie, it is not a content upgrade. You have the right to make backup copies of any program, and archive either the copy or the originals. As long as you're not trying to avoid paying for the correct number of copies, you are not infringing the copyright, breaking the law, or otherwise being a dirty low-down stealer.

If you burn copies of the program to avoid paying for the correct number of copies (one per computer) as required by law, you are breaking the 8th Commandment and teaching Jesus with stolen materials.

MISC:

I can't get past the registration screen... Actually, there is no registration screen for Life of Christ. What you're seeing is the annoying registration screen for Quicktime (the program Life of Christ uses to run its videos). Just click "continue" to get past the registration process.

"My computer locks up or I lose audio when I'm in the castle." You have an original version of the program issued prior to 1998. The developer issued a slightly updated version to correct the sound driver problem which can throw you out of the castle. Download the patch. http://www.sundaysoftware.com/xst-patch.htm

If you get a blank screen in castle and have Vista... make sure you download the latest version of Quicktime from quicktime.com

"I get a 'Can't find LOC\...Temp' error message (or something like that). The developer created a "patch" for Windows XP users. Oddly enough, it solves the sound problem mentioned above too, and the "Can't find LOC/...Temp" error not only on XP but on Windows 98/ME. If you experience sound problems running Life of Christ on XP or earlier versions of Windows, go to http://www.sundaysoftware.com/xst-patch.htm for instructions on downloading an XP patch for Life of Christ. It may just solve your problems.

If the procedures on this page are confusing to you, print this page and hand it to a techie.
