Before teaching with this
CD, check to make sure the VIDEOS work in the Bible Time Theater
section of the program. If the curtain just opens and closes
without playing the video, you need to open the CD's files and
double-click on the Quicktime Installation program (often abbreviated
QT32.exe). Follow the prompts. The videos require this program
to be installed from the CD. If you get a "3mb Virtual Memory" or
"xobglu16.dll" error message, see our solution for Noah CD at

Program Note: In 2003 Sunday Software produced Fluffy &
God's Amazing Christmas Adventure CD for newer computers. It's much
deeper than "Birth of Jesus," has a wider age range, and has a lot more
multimedia. Check it out at

The Outline and Teaching Tips a free resource from Sunday Software 1-800-678-1948 ~ www.sundaysoftware.com This free resource is provided to help you prepare lessons using The Birth and Boyhood of Jesus CD-ROM from the Interactive Bible for Kids Series. If you are not familiar with this CD, browse through it now. It will give you a better feel for the program, these Teaching Tips and this outline. How to use this CD in your classroom... Exploring, discussing, and enjoying the entire CD will be pretty near impossible in the typical 45 minute class. You might just want to hit the highlights: The Main interactive story (A Special Baby), the Bible Time Theater videos, and a few study notes in the Discover the Bible section, followed by the Bible Quizshow. You could create a unit of study using several different CDs. The Birth of Jesus is covered in the Star Chasers CD (a personal favorite of mine) and Life of Christ. It can also found in two CDs for slightly older children and younger youth: Bibleland.com and Amazing Bible Expedition. The Bible Game Show could be played at the end of class, OR in a future class period as review. The Bible Game Show could also be used as a pre-Advent test to see how familiar kids are with the story of Advent. The Hall of Fame heroes are also mentioned in several other places in the program. You could create a "Wall of Fame" in your classroom and have students research the Hall of Fame characters starting at the Hall of Fame and then exploring the rest of the CD. You could just use the Discover the Bible section as a Bible study. In this scenario, the teacher is right there with the kids. Kids take turns reading the Kids Application Bible study notes and these become fodder for discussion if the teacher wishes to pause. The Kids Application Bible study notes found throughout the Discover the Bible scripture readings contain a number of interesting discussion starters which could be the basis for other complete lessons. The subjects of each of these notes is listed in this outline. Because of the familiarity of the birth story, you might choose to use this CD as a refresher and then jump into one of the deeper subjects in the Discover the Bible study notes. The Kids Application notes on the Old Testament predictions about Jesus/Messiah, are particularly intriguing. Kids like to click and see what's next. Slowing them down a bit is always an essential task when teaching with computers. If you're teacher can't be right there every moment, create a set of questions either on a worksheet or on the board which they must find the answers to in the program. This will help them to slow down and hold them accountable for information. Plan on spending time in discussion during and after the use of the CD. The Birth of Jesus CD can be used beyond Advent time too! The theological issues and information addressed in the story (and in the CD) are appropriate and important any time of the year. You might even consider using this CD in a special "XMAS in JULY" class setting complete with Christmas lights and other activities. Age Range: I routinely use Interactive Kids CDs up through my sixth grade. Some teachers, however, feel that The Birth of Jesus CD plays a little younger than that. Technical Notes: Printing Art Center Pictures...The ART CENTER pictures cannot be printed out through the program itself. However, in Windows 95/98 you can press the Print Screen button on the keyboard and this will save it to the Windows clipboard. Open up a wordprocessor program or Wordpad (which comes with Window) and select PASTE from the edit button, then...print out the page. That's how I did the graphic here at the top of this page.
